• Performed radiological and hazardous waste characterization of entire ship with emphasis on isotopic inventory of reactor pressure vessel and internals using ORIGEN ARP 2.0 for activation analysis. Set up on-board health physics lab and prepared all procedures for conduct of operations in compliance with NRC and MARAD regulations.
• Extracted metal samples from reactor pressure vessel and internals followed by radiochemical analysis to confirm ORIGEN computations and verify Waste Acceptance Classification for ultimate disposal. Waste characteristics paper presented at DD&R conference.
• Conducted salt water ballast sampling project to obtain samples of water and residues and, through radiological/chemical analysis, determine if ballast tank contents can be discharged to the hydrosphere within discharge limits.
• Mega-Tech provides nuclear oversight services on the project.
